custom dress | the molly dress.

You may remember a little intro to the Molly Dress back in May. Beautifully textured fabric, cap sleeves, low back - this dress remains one of my most favorite that I have designed. Molly donned it for her cousin's wedding at Lowdes Grove in Charleston. I'll say - she has the dream body for a designer and she makes pretty much anything look amazing!

You can ooh and ahh endlessly over Laura's fabulous bridal portraits over on the Lauren Jackson Photography website. And stalk that blog for pictures of Laura + Colby's wedding.

custom dress | look linger love.

In case you missed it over on the look linger love blog yesterday, Chassity posted about the custom dress we collaborated on for the Spoleto Scene White Party in Charleston last week. We worked through some of Chassity's ideas and I sketched out the following:
Although she didn't make it to the White Party, she will have this fab white dress to don this summer - because those of us who know and love Charleston know that dresses are just about the only thing that leave room for the necessary breeze in the middle of the Lowcountry summer.

It was so fun to collaborate with such a cool lady in one of my favorite cities!

custom dress | 8th grade dance.

I know a girl. She's super cool and has great style. And to boot - she is only in the 8th grade. Kindred spirits we are. She makes me laugh harder than most people I know. She loves in a big, big way. Her heart for others, especially little tots and the people in Haiti, pushes me to love others unconditionally and truly feel their needs. Behind all her confidence and boldness is the gentle and sweet spirit of my Alpal.

Sometimes I dream of raiding her closet. Here's why:

So naturally when she asked me to make a dress for her 8th grade dance I jumped at the chance. Many design and construction brainstorming sessions later, I get this text advising me of the restrictions this little soiree has set:

Backless options not allowed. She knows me - I was about to send her out of middle school with a backless, sleeveless, strappy number. Not. That may typically be my preferred route but not this time.
(Did I mention she makes me laugh harder than anyone I've ever met?)

Purple + Silver. Those were my guidelines. Ally's got a little sass, so I knew embellished fabrics were a go. One-shoulder tie and rosette skirt fit that sweet girl's silhouette so perfectly. I wouldn't dare ruin the thrill of donning a custom frock to an 8th grade dance, so I'll only share a peek until then.

custom dress | summer wedding.

Hello Texas! This custom dress is on it's way to the Lone Star State, only to make it's way back to Charleston, South Carolina this summer (what frock wouldn't want to show itself off in the Lowcountry?). My sweet friend Molly asked me to make a dress for her to wear to her cousin's wedding at Lowndes Grove, a b-e-a-utiful plantation on the water, just one street over from my old abode. Requirements: low back, textured fabric, and cap sleeves. Feast your eyes on this sneak peek:
